Articles and Information about Idil-Ural Tatar language

Idil-Ural Tatar, like Crimean Tatar, has been subject to difficult historical conditions. This section is meant for posting articles related to its history and future.

Tatar language, just like a majority of other Turkic languages, has been forced through 5 different alphabets in the 20th century:

  1. Arabic Alphabet (It is also called İskí İmlâ (Old Orthography), but this name is an injustice to this alphabet, because in reality this alphabet is compatible and consistent with the alphabets of languages that currently use the Arabic script. The only purpose of the word Old here, was to give way to the phrase Yaña İmlâ (New Orthography) and to give the latter a shade of superiority. It should be noted that among the alphabets used by the Turkic languages this alphabet was used the longest.)
  2. Made up Arabic Alphabet (This alphabet is called Yaña İmlâ, but in reality it was an alphabet that was distorted and changed in a manner that distances the language from other languages using Arabic script. In partıcular, the result of this alphabet, was an orthography that was incompatible with that of Ottoman and Turkish languages.)
  3. Initial Jaŋalif
  4. Jaŋalif (based on Unified Turkic Alphabet)
  5. Cyrillic alphabet

Without exaggeration, it can be said that after these deadly games, even nowadays Idil-Ural Tatar language's existence and development is subject to political influence and pressure. The law that came out of Moscow that forbids Latin and other non-Cyrillic alphabets is an indicator of that.
